The Department
Cairo University celebrates a history of more than 180 years of medical education. The Urology Department at Kasr Al-Ainy Medical School, Cairo University is the leading establishment in Urology in the Middle East and Africa. Founded in 1961, it is the first specialized surgical department in the field of genitourinary surgery in the region. Since then it has evolved to become the regional pioneer of all urologic subspecialties including laparoscopy and laser surgery and an international authority on issues such as bladder cancer.The Department assumes a principal role in the education and training of urologists all over the Middle-East and Africa. Nationaly, the department has supervised and assisted several other universities in building and staffing thier urology departments, including Fayoum University and Beni Seuf University.
The Urology Department of Kasr Al-Ainy comprises 5 functional units operating in three
sectors of the Cairo University Hospitals. Section 17 contains the three original units that together
account for half our total inpatient capacity. The Department also operates the Cairo University Center
for Urology, Nephrology and Renal Transplantation (King Fahd Unit) and a pediatric urology unit
located in the Childrens Hospital of Aboul Reish.

The Urology Department also
runs a full-fledged educational agenda that includes an intesnse urology
residency program, the highest ranking in the nation. Continuous medical
education is offered to urologists persuing degrees in the departemental
postgraduate programs, masters or doctoral level, as well as urologists seeking
to abreast the latest developments in the specialty's dynamic field.
